Registration for the Heavy Events Closes Memorial Day (May 26th, 2025)

The Alaska Scottish Highland Games features 2 days of Heavy Events! Throwing order is determined by registration in all classes and events, but we will run a drop order rotation so that no athlete throws first all day. Registration includes admission for the athlete for BOTH Saturday and Sunday, games shirt, and lunch on competition day.

If this is your first Highland Games or your first year throwing, WELCOME! You will register in the Novice Class. If you are still unsure of what class you should register for please contact Athletic Director Jeni McDaniel, at [email protected] or 907-602-0901 before registering.
Lightweight Classes: Weigh-In will occur on Sunday, June 28th and must be completed no later than 8:30am. If you do not make weight the day of the games you can still compete in the class but your scores will not count towards the overall. You will not have the option of moving to another class on games day. If you need to move to another class (if space is available) you must notify us by May 26th. NO Class changes will be made after that date. Please be sure you can make weight before signing up.

We are excited to introduce the Open Format to the Alaska Scottish Highland Games this year. Anybody can sign up, whether you have experience as a Pro Highland Games athlete or not. No Invites. No Politics. No Favorites. Pay to Play. Throw to Win. In true Alaskan Fashion, everything is bigger, including the stakes. We're kicking off with a massive $10,000 Prize Purse! Payouts go per event for both Men's and Women's Open Classes, covering all 9 events.
1st Place: $250.00, 2nd Place: $150.00, and 3rd Place: $100.00
But that's not all! Think you have what it takes to conquer the Tim Kincaid Challenge Caber? A $500 bounty is up for grabs if it gets turned. And if you break a record, we'll pay you for it! State Records: $100.00 and World Records: $250.00!
All Alaskan Open Athletes will have the opportunity to throw our famous King Salmon on Saturday which includes cash prizes. Alaskan Open athletes can register for any of the other Challenge Events which all include cash prizes!

If you have questions about the weight sizes in each class, please see breakdown below. Athletes are welcome to throw both days if there is a class they qualify for each day. If you are only throwing one day, please consider volunteering the day you are not throwing. We need Judges, Markers and Shaggers!

Denali Stones (Saturday 6/28 12:00pm) The mighty Denali Stones—an epic challenge inspired by the legendary Dinnie Stones of Scotland. This is not for the faint-hearted; it's a true test of physical prowess and mental fortitude. The Stones: Stone 1: A colossal ~480 pounds "Bear's Resilience" and Stone 2: A hefty ~360 pounds "Eagle's Grace." If you've heard of the Dinnie Stones, you know the prestige and honor that come with lifting such legendary weights. The Denali Stones offer you the chance to etch your name in history. Competitors are allowed one attempt each. Men (12) and Women (12) Entry Fee: $25.00
Successful Lifts Prize: Name in the Official Denali Stones Record Book and Plaque and Commemorative Award
Challenge Stone (Saturday 6/28 4:00pm) Men's weight 116# Women's weight 49#. Participants in each event may use any two handed throwing technique, and are allowed a 14’ approach. The stone is thrown for distance. Competitors are allowed two attempts each. Men (12) and Women (12) Entry Fee: $25.00
Cash Prize for Challenge Stone 1st Place: $100, 2nd Place: $50, 3rd Place: $35
Farmers Walk - Records Breaker Series (Sunday 6/29 4:oopm) Men's weight 173# each hand and Women's weight is 92# each hand . The course is set up around pylons or markers set 150’ apart. Carry weights for distance. Men (10 Spots) and Women (10) Entry Fee: $25.00

Alaskan Scottish Salmon Toss (Sunday 6/29 4:00pm) On Saturday Alaskan Open Athletes will get a chance to throw the King and Sunday our amateur Athletes get the chance! "The King" is our custom made rubber salmon weighing in at a whopping 49#. Both men and women will get a chance to toss "The King" as far as they can. Entry Fee: $25.00 Men (12) and Women (12)

Clinics: Our Highland Games clinics are perfect for a new thrower to learn the basic form and techniques of each throw. They are also great for the seasoned thrower looking to knock the rust off and get help with their technique. The clinics are open to both Juniors and Adults. We are excited to be once again welcoming Women's Professional Kristine Rothwell from Idaho to coach our Anchorage and Fairbanks clinics. Our Kenai Clinic will coached by Alaska's First Professional Highland Games Athlete, Danny Autrey!

Athletics Shirts are only included with an Athletic Registration. If you are signing up for a clinic only or a Challenge Event (Farmers Walk or Challenge Stone) only you will not receive a shirt.
Customized athletic shirts: This is only to customize the shirt included with your athletic registration. Shirts with your name or nickname on the back are available for $10.00. All personalization will be reviewed by the Athletic Director for appropriateness and limited to 12 characters maximum. Please add this option from the Registration Options. Athletes also have the choice between T-Shirt or Sleeveless Shirts for their athletic shirt. There is no additional charge for this and you can make your selection at check-out.
There will be no field entries accepted for Heavy Events. Challenge Stone and Farmer's Walk registrations will be accepted on the day of games if space is still available.
